As a long-time serious recrerational bicycle rider and part-time bike racer, I presented Raquel a wide array of lower back, shoulder, and neck damage. I had spent several years trying various forms of treatment, such as deep tissue massage and chiropratic manipulation with limited success. Raquel started me out with a series of MAT sessions and a suite of isometric exercises. Later, as I began to heal, she added weight training and pilates. The results speak for themselves. After six month, I was riding the best I had in years. After 10 months under Raquel's care, I finished on the podium at the 2009 Colorado State Cyclocross Championships.

In the Spring of 2006 while on a 20 mile training run, I felt a minor twinge in my right ankle. Little did I know this “minor pain” would take me on a journey that left me cripple with pain for over a year. It turns out I had torn a tendon in my foot and been compensating all over my body to keep up with the activity level I had chosen for myself. I ended up in a cast and crutches for nearly 3 months. When I got the cast off I began rehabilitation. I noticed the pain was not just in my foot, but everywhere. The pain worsened in spite of physical therapy, massage, chiropractic care and acupuncture. I tried everything and nothing seemed to help. After seeing a flyer about Raquel describing a life without pain I decided to try Muscle Activation Technique (MAT). After 10 months of struggling, MAT proved to be the light at the end of the tunnel. With Raquel’s help and her knowledge of this outstanding form of bodywork I have regained the ability to run and workout like the maniac I am today. I would recommend her and MAT wholeheartedly to anyone struggling with aches and pains, muscular imbalances, tightness, or anyone who is trying to achieve their highest physical potential. I honestly don’t where I would be without it.

Working with Raquel not only helped me reduce the pain I was experiencing, but the methods she used to address my situation lead to re-patterning how I move and use my body. I have never felt this healthy and capable. She has introduced knowledge and habits so that I can sustain this state of well being on my own.

Thank you Raquel, I am slowly ramping up my activities and my pain is slowly receding, although it is still always there. I've been able to do things that I was honestly afraid that I'd never do again. I've been riding my road bike several times a week and have done sustained climbs up to Makawao and into the West Maui mountains. I have standup paddle surfed almost everyday and have done one 5 mile coastal downwinder. I've even windsurfed a couple times. I've been using your dvd at home between going to the gym. It is very helpful. The workouts, with you, got me to the point where I had the strength and confidence to start into these activities. Thanks for getting me on track. I still have quite a long way to go but I think that I am turning the corner.
