About In-Spira
Raquel’s Cecil, RN. Raquel’s path toward wellness began at a young age with severe traumas that required years of rehab to regain basic function. Those early years did not involve whole person therapies, but luckily for her the right people came along to guide her. Her inspiration for movement was found in dance during her time at Evergreen State College. Dancing became the perfect motivation to care for and to challenge her body’s injuries and limitations. It was one of her first dance teacher in Seattle, WA that introduced her to pilates in 1997. She was encouraged by that teacher and later the owner of a pilates studio in Denver to become an instructor and share with others what she had learned through her experience with her own recovery and studies into the body. That became the first step into a decade of study and experience.
Since that time, Raquel has studied with and been certified by masters of Pilates and Gyrotonic, including Elizabeth Larkam of the St. Francis Hospital Center for Sports Medicine, Lisa Marie Goodwin, Sebastian Plettenberg, Angela Crowley. Other studies have included teacher such as Liz Koch of The Psoas Book, Johnathan Urla the founder of Yogilates and most recently Sebastein Lagree of SPX. In dance instruction training, she completed her White Belt training in the NIA Technique in 1999 and most recently Zumba dance fitness. During the same time she was certified as a CSCS personal trainer through one of the top trainer associations in the country NSCA. Her personal passion for movement has remained dancing—primarily salsa, African and some modern —which she has studied through the University of Colorado Boulder, Cleo Parker Dance in Denver, and with various master teachers from around the world. Further studies in rehabilitation led Raquel to complete 10 months of study for certification as a Muscle Activation Techniques™ Specialist and to complete master’s level courses including Resistance Training Specialists™. Raquel’s background also includes training and experience as a Registered Nurse.
